OEP
Online Entrepreneurship program

As part of Udhyam Learning Foundation’s response to the shift to online education during the COVID-19 lockdowns (2020–2022), I led the visual and experience design for the Online Entrepreneurship Program. My work involved designing immersive presentation environments, creating a friendly mascot to guide students through the content, and integrating interactive, workshop-style elements to retain the hands-on spirit of the curriculum. This project combined visual storytelling and experience thinking to make remote learning more engaging, accessible, and meaningful for both teachers and students navigating new digital spaces.

THE Problem

The program needed to adapt to a digital-first world where:

  • Teachers and students lacked access to physical classrooms

  • Online learning tools were new and often impersonal

  • The curriculum’s hands-on, activity-driven nature risked being lost in translation

  • Visual engagement was crucial to hold attention and deliver impact

Design Approach

Background Environments

Created custom illustrated backgrounds that served as immersive "learning spaces" within the slides — replacing plain white screens with vibrant, contextual settings that visually grounded students in a space of exploration.

Morning

Noon

Sunset

To bring a sense of time and atmosphere into the virtual learning experience, I designed a set of evolving slide backgrounds that reflected different times of the day. As the course progressed, the sky subtly shifted — starting with soft morning hues, transitioning to bright midday tones, and closing with warm sunset shades. This visual rhythm helped create a sense of movement and immersion, mimicking the passage of a real school day and making the digital sessions feel more grounded and dynamic.

Learning Environments

To make the online sessions feel more alive and exploratory, I designed a series of illustrated environments that served as the visual backdrop for the course. These included a studio/workshop setup under the open sky to evoke a sense of hands-on making, a serene mountain landscape to suggest reflection and perspective, a tree-filled setting that brought in a feeling of calm and growth, and a wide open field that symbolized freedom, possibility, and fresh thinking. Each environment was chosen to align with the spirit of the course and to transport students beyond the confines of their screens, creating a richer and more imaginative learning atmosphere.

Meet BULbedia - The Program Mascot

Bulbedia's Many Moods and Expressions

To support consistent delivery of key concepts in the Online Entrepreneurship Program, I designed Bulbedia, a character mascot that acted as a teacher’s assistant and curriculum ambassador. While teachers brought their own unique styles and lived experiences to the classroom, there were certain core messages that needed to be conveyed exactly as intended by the curriculum team. Bulbedia was created to bridge that gap — delivering these specific ideas in a consistent, engaging, and accessible way.

Visually, Bulbedia is a light bulb with expressive eyes, hands, and a glowing filament, embodying curiosity, clarity, and imagination — all qualities central to the spirit of entrepreneurship. The character could light up, gesture, and shift expressions depending on the context, helping teachers communicate emotion and emphasis effortlessly.

Bulbedia’s voice was brought to life through pre-recorded audio bites by a voice artist, embedded directly into the presentation slides. Teachers could simply play these audio clips at key moments, allowing Bulbedia to explain concepts, introduce activities, or ask reflective questions — all while keeping students engaged.

By blending visual design, character development, and sound, Bulbedia became a memorable and helpful presence in the virtual classroom — reinforcing learning while lightening the teaching load.
